Vanessa Williams’ Desperate Housewives Character Revealed

Posted by Katherine Mayfair with 1 Comment

As I first reported last month, Vanessa Williams has inked a lucrative contract to stay within the ABC family as the newest of Wisteria Lane’s Desperate Housewives. Now here are the exclusive first details about a character that couldn’t be more different from Vanessa’s Ugly Betty witch, Wilhelmina Slater. First off, she sounds about as desperate as any housewife who has ever lived on the Lane.

From now on this is going to be spoilery, such us containing character name, what she does and how she is ‘close’ to someone in the show. Read at your own risk.

The Trevor Project To Honor Vanessa Williams and Macy’s, Inc.

June 28 awards gala in NYC pays tribute to honorees’ support of the LGBTQ community

NEW YORK, June 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth, today announced that it will honor multi-faceted entertainer Vanessa Williams and premier retailer Macy’s, Inc. at Trevor New York, the organization’s 10th annual East Coast fundraising gala. The event will be held on Mon., June 28 at Capitale in New York City.

Williams, who was recently announced as the newest addition to the cast of ABC’s television series, “Desperate Housewives,” and also portrayed Wilhelmina Slater in the “Ugly Betty” series, has leveraged both her professional and personal influence in support of the LGBTQ community. Her role on “Ugly Betty” helped foster diversity and LGBTQ-inclusiveness on a major American television show, and she has spoken out in favor of marriage equality and adoption rights for same-sex parents. Because of this, Williams will be presented with The Trevor Hero Award, which annually honors an individual who, through his or her example, support, volunteerism and/or occupation, is an inspiration to LGBTQ youth.

“I believe strongly in the lifesaving mission of The Trevor Project and I am honored to be recognized by an organization that provides such vital programs for our youth,” said Williams. “If any part of my career or the example I’ve set in my life had a positive impact on even one young person struggling to find acceptance and support of their sexual orientation or gender identity, then I am happy to have played even a small part in that.”

Macy’s, Inc. has earned an unequaled reputation not only as an iconic American retailing brand, but also as a corporate advocate of diversity leadership and multicultural marketing. Ad headlines including “Pride + Joy,” “Agents of Change” and “Out and All About” convey messages to youth that shattering stereotypes and being true to oneself is not only brave, but also in vogue. Macy’s, Inc. will receive The Trevor Commitment Award, which annually recognizes a company or organization that, through its policies, initiatives and other efforts, demonstrates a commitment to LGBTQ causes and is a prominent, public example of corporate acceptance of individuals regardless of sexual orientation.

“Receiving this honor from The Trevor Project validates our commitment to maintaining a brand and a shopping experience that is welcoming to all,” said William Hawthorne, Macy’s, Inc. senior vice president of diversity strategies. “Macy’s remains a steadfast supporter of inclusiveness in all aspects of our business. We will continue to celebrate the diversity of our workforce and our customers and to support organizations that align with our company’s core values.”

“Vanessa Williams and Macy’s, Inc. serve as prominent examples of how an individual or corporation can be a part of creating more accepting and inclusive environments for all youth, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity,” said Charles Robbins, executive director and CEO, The Trevor Project. “We are proud to honor them both and are grateful for the support they have given to the LGBTQ community.”

Trevor New York annually brings together top entertainers and supporters of The Trevor Project for an evening of comedy, musical performances and special honorees. This year, the Empire State Building will be lit on the evening of the event in honor of The Trevor Project. Trevor New York helps raise the financial resources necessary to fund The Trevor Project’s work toward saving lives, building communities and changing society.

Season 7 Description

Posted by Julie Mayer with No Comments

Here is the official description for season seven.

The primetime soap with a truly contemporary take on the “happily ever after,” “Desperate Housewives” returns for its seventh season. After losing her business, Bree (Marcia Cross) begins the process of rebuilding her life by telling Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker) a secret that could end their friendship; Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Tom (Doug Savant) face a rough road ahead as they welcome a fifth child to their ever growing brood; and Susan (Teri Hatcher) and Mike’s (James Denton) financial woes have forced them to rent out their house and leave Wisteria Lane. But when Paul Young (Mark Moses) mysteriously returns to the neighborhood as the new tenant, suspicions will rise.

“Desperate Housewives” stars Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Hodge, Eva Longoria Parker as Gabrielle Solis, Ricardo Antonio Chavira as Carlos Solis, Doug Savant as Tom Scavo, Kyle MacLachlan as Orson Hodge, Brenda Strong as Mary Alice Young, James Denton as Mike Delfino, Kathryn Joosten as Mrs. McCluskey, Charlie Carver as Porter Scavo, Max Carver as Preston Scavo, Joshua Logan Moore as Parker Scavo, Kendall Applegate as Penny Scavo, Madison de la Garza as Juanita and Mason Vale Cotton as MJ Delfino.

Marc Cherry is executive producer and creator. “Desperate Housewives” is produced by ABC Studios and is the winner of both the 2005 and 2006 Golden Globe® Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

Maiara Walsh will also NOT be returning as a series regular next season due to too many storylines on the go, but I wouldn`t completely rule out Ana being gone forever.

Vanessa Williams joins Desperate Housewives

Posted by Katherine Mayfair with No Comments

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry just picked up one heck of a souvenir in New York City. The producer just phoned me to share the exciting news that he met with Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams last night and earlier today closed a deal for Miss Wilhelmina Slater to bring her wonderful wickedness to Wisteria Lane next season as a series regular.

“I’m a big fan of Vanessa’s work and I’m so excited that she’ll be moving into the neighborhood next season to cause trouble in all the ladies’ lives,” says Marc. But don’t expect Vanessa to be at the center of next season’s big mystery. “I think our mystery is going to involve Paul Young [returning cast member Mark Moses].”

And here’s some extra dish. While there are no plans just yet for Paul’s son Zach (Cody Kasch) to return, the show will be casting a name actress to play Paul’s new wife.

Won’t dead old Mary Alice have fun narrating that development?

As Zap2it reported first, Vanessa Williams’ stylish heels will be kicking up dirt on Season 7 of “Desperate Housewives.”

Executive producer Bob Daily told Zap2it that creator Marc Cherry would be meeting with the woman who played Wilhelmina Slater on ABC’s “Ugly Betty.” He detailed exactly the kind of role she would be filling on The Lane.

“What we’re looking for is sort of a provocateur, a muckraker,”  Daily tells us. “We’ve had a couple different people filling that role over the years. When Dana Delany joined The Lane, her function was partially to sort of stir things up a little bit. I think that’s really what we’re looking for.”

Don’t you think Vanessa Williams is definitely the gal for the job?

I, personally, am very happy and excited about having Vdub on the show next season. I’ve been a fan of hers for a very long time.

“Super Eruption” underway at Syfy

Posted by Edie Britt with No Comments

Syfy is adding to its Saturday night creature-feature slate.

The cable network has started shooting “Super Eruption,” which centers on a super volcano that erupts in Yellowstone Park. Richard Burgi (“Desperate Housewives”) and Juliet Aubrey (“Primeval”) star as a firefighter and volcanologist, respectively, who team in an attempt to save lives.

Production is underway in Bulgaria, a land not known for its seismic activity.
